Abstract
Chronicle – Energy need since the dawn until the future
Sweden and the world need non-fossil and climate neutral energy and electricity production to avert the climate threat. We need also a reasonable balance between climate neutral base load and climate neutral weather dependent energy to manage the needs of electricity and the balance and stability in the grid. First, we look at the background:
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed from one form to another. In physics, this is the law of conservation of energy. Different forms of energy are heat, electricity, fire and mass. Einstein maybe has formulated the most beautiful and simple equation.
Since the dawn the humans always have had a need of energy for many things. During the years, the use of different energy sources has been developed. The steam machine around year 1700 led to a big development for the mining industry and the textile industry. The use of fossil energy sources since middle of the 19th century (from about year 1820) has led to a common wealth. That is the front side. The back side is the climate threat, the global warming. Maybe the global warming goes in natural cycles but these cycles are disturbed by the human use of fossil energy.
Safety Analysis – Back to Basics, now and in the Future
Safety analysis is performed due to the extremely high power density to prevent accidents, since severe consequences if an accident occurs. Humans, society and environment are protected through several barriers and all reasonable measures are needed to mitigate consequences by an accident.
A SAR (Safety Analysis Report) shall always be written for a plant regardless it is in power operation or in service operation. Occurred accidents, such as TMI 1979 and Fukushima 2011, affect both the content in SAR and may cause reconstructions. Even incidents, such as the Barsebäck incident 1992, also may cause reconstruction. A consequence of the Fukushima accident is the coming independent core cooling systems in the Swedish plants.
Challenges of decommissioning are discussed. Especially the final storage of spent nuclear fuel waste, which rather should to be used as fuel in the coming Generation IV nuclear power plants, also regarding environmental aspects. Spent nuclear fuel is a renewable energy source in a perspective of some thousands of years!
Consulting – Western Style
The definition of a consultant is a person, who is working as (an advising) specialist within technology, economy, law, public relations etc. Often, a consultant is a person with special knowledge, which is of a very strong need by the customer. A consultant supports and help the customer.
Why? How? What? Why are we working? How are we working and finally with what? This is basics creating motivation, engagement and giving the best for both the customers and the consultants. Spin sale is one of the methods to help and support the customers in an optimal way. The values are the main thing!
